Mount Louisa Child Care Centre’s menu has been carefully designed by our cook Miss Samantha to include a variety of important factors. We provide the children with 50 per cent of their daily recommended nutritional requirements utilising the five food groups of proteins, dairy, vegetables, grains and fruit.
Our menu ensures that children are provided with an enjoyable eating experience, and are able to try a variety of tastes, colours and textures.
We serve morning and afternoon teas progressively – meaning the children can come and go as they please during a set period of time, while at lunch we sit down at our tables and eat as a group with our educators. Occasionally, we enjoy a picnic – weather permitting. Water is freely available throughout the day and a late afternoon tea is also offered to children who are still in care after 4.15pm.
The current menu has included recipes from some of the cultures of the children currently attending the centre, including Indigenous Australia, Morocco, France, India, Mexico, Japan, Philippines, China, Italy, Greece, Spain and Germany. We also enjoy celebrating the National Holiday’s or significant days of these different countries including Waitangi Day, Bastille Day, NAIDOC week and South African Heritage Day to name a few.
Children with allergies and/or food intolerances are provided a tailored version of the regular menu to suit their individual needs, and children attending in the nursery have their foods made to age appropriate textures – eg mashed, lumpy, chopped, finger foods etc.
Miss Samantha is always open to feedback and suggestions and would love to know of any exciting or cultural recipes that we could potentially add to our menu.
